Denver Broncos quarterback Steve Beuerlein will return for a 17th season.

Beuerlein said just three weeks ago that he was leaning toward retirement after his third season with the Broncos, but changed his mind after talking to coach Mike Shanahan.

Beuerlein did not play in 2001 after elbow surgery, and spent most of last season as Brian Griese‘s backup. . . .

The New York Jets signed running back Sean Bennett, who was released by the Giants last season, and re-signed six backups.

Bennett was drafted by the Giants in the fourth round in 1999. Plagued by injuries throughout his career, he’s played in just 16 games over four seasons and was released in December. . . .

The Houston Texans signed former Baltimore Ravens linebacker Shannon Taylor and re-signed linebacker Troy Evans.
