NFL News of April 1, 2003

The Vikings created some competition for the No. 3 quarterback spot when they agreed to terms on a one-year deal with Kevin Thompson.

The agreement with Thompson was reached late last week. He will compete with Shaun Hill for a roster spot. Hill is currently playing in the NFL Europe season.

Thompson, who played at Penn State, has had brief stints with Cleveland since being signed by the Browns as an undrafted free agent in 2000.

…On the day the Vikings’ off-season training program began, running back Michael Bennett was in the locker room Monday, on crutches, his left foot in a cast.

Bennett had surgery on a stress fracture in the foot Friday, and it went well, with no complications. Bennett will wear the immobilizing boot for a couple of weeks, then begin rehab, with total recovery expected in about six weeks.
